A NEW support group has been launched in Chandler’s Ford aimed at stroke survivors, their families and carers.

The Stroke Association and the Rotary Club of Chandler’s Ford and Itchen Valley launched the new group at the end of last month to provide a range of activities and information for people who have suffered strokes or who are caring for those who have.

The group meets from 2-4pm on the last Thursday of every month at the Velmore Community Centre.

Katherine Staley, regional head of operations of the Stroke Association, said: “We’re really excited to be launching this new group. A stroke can happen in an instant but leaves half the people who survive reliant on others for everyday activities such as making a cup of tea or leaving the house.

“This can be very isolating for stroke survivors and their families. This new Stroke Association Voluntary Group will give people the chance to come together, gain confidence and have fun.”

The group was set up in memory of the long-serving Rotarian, Tom Foster, who suffered from a stroke in September 2007. Mr Foster passed away in 2013 after falling at his home.
