Winchester to host new Cancer Research Race for Life event
3:00pm Friday 7th February 2014 in Winchester
WINCHESTER has been chosen to host one of just 19 new events from Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life.
Pretty Muddy, a five-kilometre course complete with crawling, climbing and, of course, muddy obstacles, will be held on June 7 at Winchester Garrison Ground and University Sports Stadium.
Registration is now open for the event and organisers are urging Winchester women to get down and dirty to help beat cancer.
Similar to Race for Life, the course is only open to women and can be run, walked or jogged, and participants are encouraged to raise as much sponsorship as they can over the coming months.
Fiona Miller, Cancer Research UK’s South East events manager, said: “Pretty Muddy is a fantastic addition to our Race for Life family.
“It promises all the fun and camaraderie of our much loved 5k and 10k events, but with added obstacles.
“Race for Life events are not competitive. They are not about being fit or fast. Instead, they are an amazing way to celebrate life but also remember those who have been lost to the disease.”
Every day 120 people across the South East are diagnosed with cancer, and last year 1,888 women took part in Winchester’s Race for Life, raising an incredible £127,618 to help fund ground-breaking research.
The charity receives no funding from the government, and with the help of people from the South East they intend to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.
