MORE about the search for King Alfred the Great was due to be revealed today.
Archaeologists and researchers were due to hold a press conference at Noon to outline previously secret details about the project to probe the final resting place of the king in Winchester.
Last year historians exhumed bones from a grave at St Bartholomew’s church in Hyde. Alfred, who defeated the Vikings, founded the Royal Navy and nurtured learning in the Dark Ages, was buried in Hyde Abbey but his bones were reputed to have been reburied at St Bartholomew’s.
The project was filmed by the BBC and The Search for Alfred the Great, presented by Neil Oliver, will be broadcast on BBC2 on Tuesday January 21 at 9pm.
People involved in the project signed confidentiality agreements with the BBC.
The press conference will be hosted by the University of Winchester and Hyde900 community group that initiated the search.
