A WOMAN who works in Winchester has been awarded an MBE for her services to adult education.
Alex Day, Director of the Adult and Higher Education Division at Peter Symonds College, was recognised in the New Year’s Honours List amongst almost 1,200 others.
Mrs Day has worked as Director of AHED at the college for six years, and has campaigned for better adult education services, setting up 11 accredited Foundation Degree subjects, four BA Honours and two MA courses, all in partnership with Middlesex University.
In 2012 half the graduates from counselling courses achieved a first, and this year has seen 66 students graduating in five different subjects.
Mrs Day said she couldn’t have done it without her colleagues and students. She said: “I am both honoured and humbled to receive this public award.”
College Principle, Steve Carville, added that he is glad her work has been recognised.
