WINTONIANS still have a chance to vote for their favourite councillor.

The deadline for 2014 Annual Councillor Achievement Awards has been extended to Friday, January 17.

Now in its fifth year, the awards are the only national ceremony to recognise the work of councillors from across the political spectrum.

This year there will be a total of 11 different categories, including the Community Champion Award, the Age UK Award, the all-new Digital Innovator Award and the Bruce-Lockhart Member Scholarship. The latter includes a £10,000 bursary, supported by Kent, Essex, and East Sussex councils.

The awards are run by the LGiU, the independent research and information organisation, and the CCLA, an investment management firm for charities and local authorities. Jonathan Carr-West, chief executive of the LGiU, said: “Councillors play a vital role in championing the interests of their communities, but all too often we can overlook their contributions.

“The awards provide a brilliant opportunity to celebrate the fantastic work of councillors from across the country.”

The 2014 C’llr Awards (CORRECT – as per the logo) are free to enter. Further information on how to do this and copies of the nomination forms are available at www.lgiu.org.uk/cllrawards.

The closing date for all entries is January 17 at 5pm.
