A WINCHESTER ‘crack den’ has been closed down following months of suspected anti-social behaviour.

Police secured a premises closure order for a flat in Kings Worthy issued by Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court.

The flat’s closure follows ongoing issues of alleged drug-dealing with many cars visiting Harwood Place.

One local resident, who asked not to be named, said: “I had heard about the crack den. There had been lots of coming and goings of cars stopping for just a few moments and then leaving, that sort of thing.

“There should be a more vigorous vetting process for potential residents. Most of us who live around here are in their fifties and sixties, you know older people, and then you get the likes of this happening. Plus you’ve got families living here as well of course.”

The order was made in accordance with the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003, ‘in connection with the unlawful use, production or supply of a Class A drug’ as well as the occurrence of disorder or serious nuisance to members of the public.

No one can legally enter the flat for three months.

Liberal Democrat city councillor for Kings Worthy, Robert Johnston, said: “It’s a social evil. It destroys lives and leads to family break-ups and an early death. We must all work together to deter people from ever becoming addicted and crack down on this ongoing problem.”

The closure comes just weeks after the Chronicle reported the closure of a house in Harestock.

A property in Upton Grey Close was closed early in Octoberby the police with the support of the owner A2Dominion and Winchester City Council.
