Winchester opticians marks 90th anniversary with visit from Mayor

A WINCHESTER opticians celebrated 90 years in business last week.
High Street shop Rawlings welcomed Mayor Cllr Ernie Jeffs to a special event on August 22, who presented a cheque to nine-year-old Laurence Smith.
Laurence, who was diagnosed with a type of eye cancer called retinoblastoma, was selected to received the cheque on behalf of the charity CHECT.
Laurence’s condition was diagnosed following a routine eye-check by Rawlings optometrist and Laurence’s aunt, Rachael Smith.
Dispensing optician, Sara Shipway, said: “All the money was raised through a draw prize in branch, carried out in July and August, as well as donations from our suppliers.
“We have always had very long standing staff who have worked here for over 30 years.”
The event also saw children designing glasses to win tickets to Paultons Park and win Ray-Ban sunglasses. Four finalists will be announced later.
