THE Colossal Cake Sale returns to Winchester this year, with a host of dignitaries on hand to help out.

Winchester mayor Frank Pearson will open the sale on 10.30am on Saturday, March 9, and cakes can be bought at St Maurice's Covert and The Brooks Centre.

The sale is in its fifth year and will raise money for the Help for Heroes (H4H) charity, which cares for wounded serviceman and their families.

And anyone attending may recognise a few faces behind the counter, as MPs Steve Brine and George Hollingbery will be among those rolling up their sleeves.

All kinds of merchandise will be on sale, there will be also be a raffle and Hero the Bear will be strutting his stuff up and down the High Street.

County coordinator Sarah Walker said: “I have been involved with Help for Heroes since it started and know how invaluable your generosity and support is and what a huge difference it makes to the lives of our service personnel with life changing injuries. With your help we have already achieved a great deal but we do still need more money to provide our wounded Heroes with the best possible care for the rest of their lives.”
