WINCHESTER is to receive a royal visit tomorrow as Prince Edward, the Earl of wessex, arrives to unveil a sculpture at the Great Hall.

The bronze artwork is to mark his mother the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and has been produced by Hampshire’s Vivien Mallock.

Before the unveiling at 1.30pm, Edward will be at the University of Winchester to officially open St Alphege, their new state-of-the-art learning and teaching building.

The prince will be accompanied by Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire Dame Mary Fagan and will take a tour of the university, meeting students and attending a class, before finally unveiling a plaque.

The university’s vice-chancellor, Professor Joy Carter, said: “We’re delighted the Earl of Wessex will be officially opening St Alphege.

“The new building, together with its vibrant artwork, forms a striking focal point on campus and will add further to the first rate facilities for both staff and students.”
