A MAN in a wheelchair was injured when a van ran over his foot in Winchester.

The 54-year-old was waiting on the pavement to cross St James Lane at the junction with Romsey Road next to the Royal Hampshire County Hospital.

A white van turning left out of St James Lanes clipped the kerb andcrushed  the man’s left foot, knocking his wheelchair through 90 degrees.

He suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital. It happened at around 4.10pm on Wednesday, January 23.

The van is described as small and white with a Hampshire NHS sign on the rear.

PC Paul Headen from Winchester Targeted Patrol team said today:  “I’m appealing for any witnesses to come forward to try and identify the vehicle and driver involved. It may be that the driver was not aware of what happened.”
