Winchester cobblers raises £1,000 for army charity
4:56pm Tuesday 22nd January 2013 in Winchester
A WINCHESTER cobblers has raised £1,000 in ten months for The Soldiers’ Charity.
The money has been collecting in one tin at Timpson’s shop on the High Street.
Timpson’s manager Scotty Tallack, a veteran of the local Princess of Wales’ Royal Regiment, was impressed by the way Winchester’s public responded to the ‘Collecting Pot’.
The cheque was formally accepted for the charity by Sergeant Major Ben Culleton of the Staff and Personnel Support Unit based at Worthy Down.
Colonel Simon Lane, the Soldiers Charity regional director, said: “This is absolutely brilliant; well done Timpson. This is by far the quickest shop pot collection for this sum we have ever had.
“Within the next month these funds will be providing welfare help for Hampshire veterans and their families in need, from the Second World War onwards.”
