ANOTHER big name brand is under threat of closure in Winchester High Street.

HMV announced it was going into administration on Monday (Jan 14), threatening 10 jobs in Winchester and more than 4,000 nationwide.

The Winchester branch looks set to continue trading though as administrators Deloitte said it would keep all stores open throughout the UK while it looked for a buyer.

The shop has struggled against competition from online digital sales and mail-order sites like Amazon.

Staff at the Winchester shop declined to comment but an HMV spokesman said: "The board regrets to announce that it has been unable to reach a position where it feels able to continue to trade outside of insolvency protection and in the circumstances therefore intends to file notice to appoint administrators.”
