DRINK-drive arrests in Hampshire over Christmas have fallen by 15 per cent since last year, according to police figures.
Arrests dropped from 240 in 2011 to 205 following Hampshire Constabulary’s Smashed campaign between December 1 and January 1, during which time 5,811 drivers were breath tested.
Of the 205 arrested, 12 per cent were at least three times over the limit. Police have since charged 140 people with drink drive offences while 51 have been bailed pending further inquiries and 14 released with no further action.
Nineteen drivers were arrested in the East Hampshire and Winchester area, while 17 were arrested in Eastleigh and Romsey.
Southampton had the most arrests in Hampshire with 33 while Havant had the least with six.
