A WINCHESTER volunteer has been nominated for an award for her work with a veterinary charity.

Ellie Luckett, 28, has been shortlisted in PDSA’s annual Volunteer Awards for her outstanding commitment.

Jody Clarke, who nominated Ellie for the award, said: “When Ellie first started with us she lacked a little bit in confidence but over time her confidence has improved dramatically and she is more than capable to crack on with any task we ask her to do.”

PDSA provide free veterinary treatment to the sick and injured pets of people in need. Staff at their National Volunteering Centre in Hyde Street handle enquiries from the public, co-ordinate volunteer placements nationwide and support staff in all aspects of volunteer management. Animal lover Ellie decided to volunteer after suffering health problems.

She said: “The best bit about volunteering is helping sick and injured pets by helping the team however I can, freeing their time for other things. I enjoy learning new skills, taking part in research projects and the opportunities for volunteer development.”

The PDSA Volunteer Awards are now in their tenth year and the winners will be announced in the New Year.
