SCORES of people with unsold goods at a collapsed Alresford auction house have two two-hour windows this Friday and next to retrieve their property.

Prospect Auction Rooms closed last month with undisclosed debts and with many people’s belonging at the salesroom in Alresford.

People will have two hours on Friday December 7 between Noon and 2pm to get their items according to a notice on the gate in Prospect Road that was put up yesterday.

It said: “Salesroom will be open for collection of unsold items on Friday 7th December between 12-2pm.” Another notice said: “Prospect Auction Rooms is going into receivership.”

Speaking this afternoon Mr Evans said he would be willing for the salesroom to be opened on Friday December 14 at the same times.

One person who has items there, and who asked not to be named, speaking before Mr Evans agreed to a second opening, said: “This is disgusting. To get organised, arrange transport and someone to help with the lifting for Friday is ridiculous. These people are having a laugh.”

The Chronicle has been contacted by numerous people who are either owned money by Prospect or who have their goods locked in the building.

Hampshire Trading Standards have declined to say whether they are investigating the business. A police spokesman said it is currently an issue for trading standards.

Manager Charles Evans said this afternoon: “There is not a lot of stuff there, only the stuff that has not been sold. But I will put another notice up for the following Friday.

“I think I am being very reasonable. I can only do what I can possibly do.”

Mr Evans said he was a sole trader but that he did not own the business. The owner is Gemma Sharp, he said.

A receiver has yet to be appointed. Mr Evans said he expected that to happen within 10-14 days.

When he spoke to the Chronicle last month he said the collapse of the business, established in 2009, was not his fault but that of the economic downturn.
