Yes, collectively, they have ran campaigns that were important and changed things for the good but they have also been a force for bad.
It has, for a long time, seemed like that when they want to run a story that will sell newspapers ( celebs, politicians, sports, x factor, I’m a celeb etc. etc. etc. ) they never seem to let the truth get in the way of a good story and how many times have they, if not making the story, they give it a good nudge in their favour. Well this is not free speech it is intrusion of privacy. Maybe the great unwashed want to know who the latest celeb is dating but it doesn’t mean they should be told.

If so called independent body Leveson appear to have argued for is going to be simply another tarted up version of current PCC, meaning press's own supposedly tough new body, tiger without teeth, then it will be like employing Roni Biggs or likes of Krays as security guards to protect vaults full of gold.
To expect victims of excesses of press abusing the freedom, which most of us rightly support, still will be expected to fund super expensive court cases from own resources, which only very rich few will be able to afford.
Lord Leveson has done his work, now the ball is in the court of parliament, which unfortunately is dominated by mostly puppets on the strings controlled by the press.
