MORE than 100 youngsters attended a dance-a-thon event in aid of Winchester hospital.

Emily Mallinson, 15, a pupil at Kings’ School organised the two and a half hour event to raise £600 for the Magic Wand Appeal to revamp the children’s ward at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital.

She said she wanted to stage the fundraiser because the RHCH saved the life of her sister Abigail.

“I thought I should give something back. The evening was a great success,” said Emily, adding that Kings’ had helped her throughout.

Headtacher Sue Lawrence let Emily have the hall for free and Steve Russell, school caretaker, gave up his afternoon and evening to help.

Among the acts taking part were Integr8 Dance, Ready Salted, Priyanka Arora and Emily herself, Becki Short. Companies who helped sponsor the event included Greggs, Buddy’s Diner, Sainsbury’s, C&H fabric and Your Life Your Style.
