A WINCHESTER youth group is giving back to one of the charities that funds it.

Street Reach, which works with young people aged 13-19, held a cake sale for Children in Need during a football session on Friday night (Nov 16).

The service is part-funded by the charity and project manager Ben Martin said they wanted to return the support.

He said: “Street Reach receives generous funding from Children in Need, so it is good for the project to put something back in.”

County councillor Jackie Porter, chairman of trustees, added: “We are very grateful to Children In Need for the grant of £27000 over three years. Our project manager works with Children in Need to make sure every penny given to Street Reach is spent carefully. But there is plenty to do, even in Winchester, so more volunteers as trustees or youth workers would be very welcome.”

Beginning in 1983, the service has been providing advice on bullying, drug abuse and sexual health, while helping with skills like computer literacy and CV writing.

There are two weekly sessions and a drop-in football session every Friday.
