MUSIC students in Winchester are gearing up for the Peter Symonds College Contemporary Young Musician of the Year Festival this week.

Guitar and drum students will even get the chance to work with ‘The Baker Brothers’ at the second annual festival on Friday (Nov 9).

Two of the ‘brothers’ are actually college music teachers Geoff Lai and Ted Carrasco who are running classes and workshops throughout the day, while each student will also perform a solo.

But the band have been playing live shows for almost 10 years, including tours of Japan and Europe, and have released seven albums.

The Baker Brothers have also supported legends like Sly and the Family Stone and Jools Holland.

Rachel Platt, head of music said: “This is a valuable opportunity for our contemporary musicians to perform with musicians with an incredible wealth of experience.”

Highlights from the day will then be performed at a concert in the college’s Varley Theatre at 7.30pm.

Tickets on the door cost £5 for adults but students are free.
