See the Super Yachts to be built in Southampton

THIS is a first look at the palatial luxury of the superyachts set to be built in the heart of Southampton from next year. Iconic US yacht maker Palmer Johnson is to create 800 highly-skilled jobs in the city building these massive, luxury vessels for the super-rich.

As reported in the Daily Echo, an application for a 20,420 sq m factory on the former VT site in Woolston was submitted to planning bosses this week.

If approved, the factory could be producing boats of 51m and beyond before the end of next year.

As playthings of a wealthy global elite, no expense is spared on the multi-million pound vessels.

The 41m Dragon boasts a hot-tub in the bow and a pair of matching jet-ski-style personal water vehicles stored in the stern.

Inside, the luxury continues with a dining table for ten and an open salon complete with massive flat screen TVs.

A vast, 28ft wide, master bedroom boasts African hardwoods and crocodile leather throughout.

But because each boat is built to order, the interiors differ from owner to owner, with marble, grand staircases and floor-toceiling mirrors common extras.

It's all a far cry from the Wisconsin-based brand's humble origins as a builder of wooden fishing boats.

Thought that ther was supposed to be a recession on/coming?

Wonder if they should build some patrol boats to keep drugs and other stuff out of our nation instead of these gin palaces.
