Resurfacing ahead for well-worn lane

A COUNTY councillor has welcomed news THAT East Wellow's Ryedown Lane is to be resurfaced shortly.

Romsey Extra division member, Roy Perry, who is Hampshire's deputy leader, said the resurfacing work WAs long overdue but it would mean that a temporary road closure will be put in place from Monday, August 18, while the work is done. However, the closure was expected to last no more than three days.

Mr Perry, who has been campaigning for months for the road to be resurfaced and is pushing for either a 40mph or 50mph limit to be introduced at Ryedown Lane, said: "This is a very busy road and the surface has become badly worn. As a result of my urging, temporary work was done a few weeks ago, but now the surface will be fully repaired. I appreciate there will be a few days inconvenience while this work is done, but there will be a decent surface as a result. I know this is a popular route between Romsey and Wellow, but I would remind motorists that, in the bottom stretch of Ryedown Lane, there are private residences as well as Wellow Golf Club ,and I would urge people to drive with consideration."
