Sea Cadets parade for district officer
Romsey Sea Cadets recently welcomed their District Officer, Lt Cdr (SCC) Mike English RNR to Romsey Headquarters. This was his last main land engagement before retiring as their District Officer.
The evening started with the traditional Naval Colours ceremony, which included a guard of five cadets led by Leading Cadet Ryan Tizard.
Following this the District Officer spoke with each cadet before addressing all assembled.
Later in the evening a special presentation was made by Lt Cdr Derek Login, Southern Area Senior Area Staff Officer, to Lt Dave Mackay in recognition of 38 years service as an adult instructor.
Lt Login had travelled from Berkshire for the occasion and paid tribute to Lt Mackay's many years' service during which he had shared his skills on a wide range of Sea Cadet activities including seamanship, sailing, canoeing, shooting and expedition training. In addition to a third bar for his long service medal Lt Mackay was given a framed certificate signed by Captain Jonathan Fry, Captain of the Sea Cadets.
The evening concluded with a copy of So Drunk he must have Come from Romsey being presented to Lt Cdr English as a small momento of his time associated with Romsey - although it was commented that the local history book was in no way linked to personal memories of his visits to Romsey Sea Cadets.
