Alan Hancock beat off stiff competition from some 800 drivers across Britain to clinch the title at DHL Tradeteam's national distribution centre at Burton-on-Trent.
The 50-year-old, based at Tradeteam's Totton depot, was one of six regional winners in the grand final.

"Being a professional lorry driver it's the highest accolade I could ever wish to achieve. It was an extremely well-organised and enjoyable event."
Alan finished third in last year's event. "The odd thing about this year's event was I was more nervous this time. It put more pressure on me to do better than last year," he told the Advertiser.
It was a cup double' for the Hancocks as Alan's wife Kim scooped the top award in the company's ladies driving challenge' and she also received a trophy.
Kim said: "It was wonderful to watch the competitors in the lorry driver of the year competition. There was a lot of skill involved and I am very proud of Alan."
Bosses at Tradeteam's Totton depot were delighted for Alan.
Operations manager, Craig Kelly explained that Alan had won the depot award for the second year running. He was then assessed against five other drivers within the company's south west region before progressing to the national final.
Drivers contesting the final undertook various challenges, which as well as testing their skills behind the wheel included vehicle checks and and questions driving regulations.
"We are really pleased that Alan has achieved recognition as the overall winner of driver of the year and received this award for a job well done," said Mr Kelly.
