THE tradition of political hustings is still alive and well in Winchester.
No fewer than seven have been arranged for this General Election campaign.
They are: Savills’ ‘The Winchester Debate’ on Tuesday April 20 at The Stripe, King Alfred Campus, aimed at the business community.
WinACC’s ‘Climate Debate’ will be on April 22 also at the Stripe.
Winchester Chamber of Commerce’s event will be on April 27 from 5.30pm at the Wessex Hotel, to be chaired by Khalid Aziz.
Mr Aziz said: “I don’t think we need the myriad of rules we are seeing in the national debates but I’m sure all business people will join me in wanting to ensure all candidates answer the questions properly. Our business leaders need the right support locally and nationally in order to prosper after the recession,” he said.
Tickets cost £13+VAT for members and £17+VAT for non-members, all to be bought in advance through the Hampshire Chamber of Commerce.
The well-established Winchester Churches Together debate is at the United Church in Jewry Street on Thursday April 28.
Alresford Chamber of Commerce holds its hustings on Friday April 29.
Meanwhile students are staging meetings Peter Symonds College at lunchtime on April 29 and Winchester University Student Union on May 4.
