AN action day brought together students and locals to help spruce up a local park in Winchester.

The day, organised by the city council, saw people unite to work on planting hedges and tress along the western boundary of the Cromwell Road recreation ground in Stanmore.

They ranged in age from former city councillor Ernie Nunn, aged 92, to Archie Richardson, aged three.

City councillor Jamie Scott, a Stanmore resident, said: "I would like to thank everyone who came along to help on Tuesday and made a real difference to the lower Stanmore Rec. Great to see an outdoor project bringing people together".
