SHOULD councillors details be available online?

That is the question that a Hampshire parish council is asking after a fruitless search for a new councillor.

In a Compton and Shawford Parish Council meeting it was heard only one person expressed an interest in the role, but they pulled out after hearing personal details would be published on the parish council website.

The council noted that, since 2011, when the current legislation on publishing the register of interest on council websites had been

introduced, identity fraud had become a major concern for many people.

It has been agreed that the chairman of the parish council will write to Winchester City Council’s senior legal officer questioning whether the requirement to publish on the website was sensible.
