IDEAS for Station Approach in Winchester will be on public display today.

Two firms of architects are showing their proposals for the massive redevelopment scheme, at the Guildhall.

The scheme would see massive changes in the area between Newburgh Street, Stockbridge Road, Andover Road to the Cattle Market car park.

One of the two schemes, by Winchester-based Design Engine and London-based Hopkins Architects, will go forward to the city council new Cabinet on May 19.

The option will be selected by an expert jury and officer panel taking into account public views at the start of the project.

Hampshire Chronicle:

Cabinet will decide whether to proceed with the competition winner. If Cabinet appoints an architect, consultation on the design will follow to help develop the scheme. Any scheme would need to be submitted for planning permission with accompanying consultation.

The display shows the schemes that have been under consideration to regenerate Station Approach and marks another important step on the road.

Council Cabinet has been clear that the project to deliver new offices, public spaces, parking, homes and shops near the railway station is a high priority.

The display will be open at the Guildhall from 5pm to 8pm today and 10am to 4pm tomorrow, they will also be on show at the Walton Suite from 1pm to 6.30pm on Wednesday, 10am to 4pm on Thursday and 8am to 1pm on Friday.

An officer will be available to answer questions about the project and design process.

The designs will also be available to view on the Council’s website at http://www.winchester.gov.uk/planning/major-sites/station-approach/display-shortlisted-designs/
