WINCHESTER City Council Lib Dem leader Kelsie Learney has not been re-elected.

Cheers go up from the Tories for Winchester City Council's first declaration as they unseat Liberal Democrat group leader Kelsie Learney.

Victorious councillor Paul Twelftree seems to have won voters with his campaign to keep a main city road open during the Barton Farm development.

Winchester City Council, Littleton and Harestock Paul Twelftree, Conservative, 1,144 Kelsie Learney, Liberal Democrat, 931 Peter Rees, Labour, 156 Turnout: 78.24 per cent.

The Conservatives continue their good day in Winchester as Fiona Mather holds her seat in St Michael Ward, with a turnout of 75.1 per cent.

The outgoing Mayor of Winchester, Conservative Eileen Berry, holds her seat for another term as the Greens push Labour into fourth place, seeing 75.9 per cent of a turnout.

But there is disappointment drawn on faces in the Labour camp as veteran Chris Pines' vacant seat is lost to the Conservatives.

They were hopeful youngster Ben Farnes could retain this seat but Jonathan Scowen, Conseravtive, took 29 per cent of the votes.

Conservative Norma Bodtget held the Upper Meon Valley seat with 801, and the gap has increased for the Lib Dems as Independent Colin Chambrlain loses his seat in Bishop's Waltham to the Conservative candidate.

In a family affair, Tom Ruffell, son of outgoing planning committee chairman Laurence Ruffell, sweeps to victory in the Bishop's Waltham ward. He's beaming as he stops for photos with his father.

Good news for the Lib Dems in Winchester - and the deputy mayor, Angela Clear - they have held Wickham ward.

Lib Dem Jamie Scott retains his seat in the St Luke ward with 42.9 per cent of the vote (1,199). He was followed by Ross Playlet, Conservative 26.4 per cent (645), Kia Pope, Green 9.7 per cent (238), and Max Stafford, Labour 14.5 per cent (354) - with a turnout of 61.73 per cent.

Kim Gottlieb, the rebel Winchester councillor who successfully challenged the Guildhall in the High Court over the controversial Silver Hill development, holds his seat with ease.
