THE Meon Valley has resoundingly returned Conservative George Hollingbery as its MP.

His victory could not have been more emphatic.

Mr Hollingbery polled 31,578, a huge majority of 23,913 over Dave Alexander of UKIP who polled 7,665.

Labour made a relatively strong showing with Gemma McKenna attracting 5, 656 votes.

The Lib Dems' Chris Carrigan was pushed back into fourth place with his vote collapsing to only 4,987.

Coming last was the Green candidate Diana Korchien who got 1,831 votes.

The turnout was 71.2 per cent – slightly down on the 72.8 per cent in 2010.

Mr Hollingbery thanked his delirious supporters at the River Park Leisure Centre and told them he would carry on and do his best to be a good constituency MP.
