THE Electoral Reform Society has predicted the results in ten Hampshire constituencies.

The society, which is campaigning for a change to the current first-past-the-post system of elections, has made predictions in 364 constituencies up and down the country.

It has forecast the Conservatives to retain Winchester and the Meon Valley, Labour’s Rowenna Davis to win the marginal Southampton Itchen, Liberal Democrat Mike Thornton to win in Eastleigh and Conservative Caroline Nokes to triumph in Romsey and Southampton North.

The society’s predictions also included Labour retaining Southampton Test and the Conservatives to keep hold of Fareham, Gosport and New Forest East and West.

Chief executive Katie Ghose said: “We urgently need a fairer electoral system to give voice to the many millions of people in safe seats who are not being heard.”

“Predicting the winners in a majority of seats shouldn’t be possible in a truly dynamic and modern democracy. But sadly that’s exactly what we’ve been able to do. The UK needs a fair voting system to bring our politics into the 21st century and give us a Parliament that actually reflects people’s wishes.”
