THE UK Independence Party has chosen its candidate to fight the General Election in the Winchester and Chandler’s Ford constituency.

He is Martin Lyon, a married father of four, who is currently a Hampshire county councillor for the Bishopstoke, Fair Oak and Horton heath division.

Mr Lyon is a chartered surveyor with 25 years experience in the building industry.

He is a former pupil at Pilgrims’ School in Winchester from 1975 to 1979 and sang in the cathedral choir.

Mr Lyon returned to Winchester in 1984 and moved to Fair Oak in 2002.

Last month he helped found the HALT campaign, short for Hampshire Against Land Threat, opposing unnecessary development in the Eastleigh, Bishopstoke and Colden Common areas.
