MEMBERS of Compton and Shawford Parish Council have voted in favour of proposals to change the electoral cycle.
Currently one third of city councillors are elected for a four year term of office but the proposal will see these replaced with a single election every four years.
It is hoped the move will alleviate ‘voter fatigue’.
Part of the suggestion, which was discussed at the last parish council meeting, also includes the number of councillors to be reduced, from 57 to 40, which may result in an expansion of some ward boundaries and could potentially split the parish.
This means Shawford could join with Twyford and Compton join with Otterbourne and possibly Hursley but parish councillors stated that every effort should be made to preserve the current ward boundaries.
