WATER levels are reaching the point where some cellars in the Meon Valley might start to flood.
The warning comes from the Environment Agency, which is keeping a close eye on rainfall data.
It is also checking the water table, which has been above average for most of the winter after a very wet November.
Rainfall since then has been average for the time of year, but water levels are still rising, the agency said.
In its latest report, it warned that some cellars and low-lying areas in Soberton, Hambledon, Denmead and Meonstoke could be at risk.
It comes after several Hambledon streets were submerged in 2000 when water poured out of the sodden ground after too much rain.
The agency's latest report also said: "Groundwater levels in the Somborne Valley have also remained high, with the Somborne Stream flowing from above Kings Somborne.
"Cellar flooding is a possibility in this area if more heavy rainfall is received and levels continue to rise.
"In the Itchen catchment groundwater levels have remained high but relatively stable.
"Levels are still rising at Hursley, and cellar flooding could occur if we receive further heavy rainfall. Groundwater levels are also high around Preston Candover and Bishops Sutton."
The agency is advising residents to keep drains clear and move any valuables out of cellars if they live in flood-prone areas.
