A DRIVER has been banned after being convicted of being drunk in charge of a vehicle.

James David Gulliver also assaulted two police officers who were called to the scene in High Street, Broughton.

Gulliver, 29, of North End, Broughton, denied all charges but was convicted after a trial.

The court heard that he was in charge of a 51-reg Mercedes Benz M class on June 10 and then assaulted PCs Pike and Johnson.

He was disqualified from driving for six months and was ordered to be under curfew from 8pm on September 19 until 5am on October 30, with electronic monitoring.

Gulliver was also ordered to pay legal costs of £620. Magistrates also ordered that he pay £50 compensation to each officer.
