Winchester firefighters tackled a pylon fire that knocked out power for more than a dozen homes in a hamlet near the city.
A crew was called to Jackmans Hill, Morestead, near Twyford, at about 2.30pm on Saturday after reports of the fire in a transformer box at the top of the wooden pole.
Southern Electric, still dealing with a backlog of weather-related problems, switched off power to 13 homes at 3.05pm to allow the firemen to safely work.
Watch manager Allister Owen, of Winchester fire station, said today: “It was arcing quite badly, sending sparks across the road.”
A spokesman for Southern Electric said the transformer was replaced and power was restored to local homes at 8.55pm on Saturday.
