By Warwick Payne
WHEN Oliver’s Battery Brownie Pack was formed, decimal currency had only recently been introduced.
It is now celebrating its 40th birthday and held a special event at St Mark’s Church Hall in Oliver’s Battery Road South.
Taking place on Tuesday (January 3) it marked the official launch of the group in 1972.
It first started meeting in June 1971 before it became the 3rd Winchester Brownie Pack a few months later.
Brown Owl Sue Sadler, who leads the group, has been involved since the start.
She is due to retire in the summer along with another stalwart, Tawny Owl Brenda Knight.
The pack has around 25 members and there is often a waiting list of youngsters hoping to join.
Meetings are held at St Mark’s Church Hall on Tuesdays from 5.45 to 7.15pm. For more details email Sue Sadler at sue.sadleralton@hotmail.co.uk or call her on 01420 82756.
