WATER bosses say that works to replace old mains pipes in Hampshire are on track.
Some were laid as long ago as the 1930s, and are being replaced with modern versions in toughened plastic.
Southern Water hopes to minimise leaks and laid 17 kilometres of new pipes in 2011 in Winchester, Romsey and Tadley.
The schedule for 2012 will include works in Southampton and Fareham.
Southern Water senior project manager Thomas Burgess said: “A priority for the company is to reduce leakage and the replacement of these water mains is key to that.
“This work is particularly important during the winter, when pipes are at a greater risk of bursting due to the cold weather.
“I’d like to thank customers for their continued patience and assure them we’re doing all we can to keep disruption to a minimum.”
