A FREE workshop will be held for rural businesses and landowners who are considering applying for planning permission.

The workshop is being run by Winchester City Council at Sparsholt College and will take place on Thursday, January 19 from 4 to 6.30pm.

The keynote speaker, George Hollingbery, the MP for Meon Valley, plans to tell rural businesses what is happening at a national level to cut red tape and help local businesses prosper. More details will be provided on the implications of localism and the new South Downs National Park.

Simon Finch, head of planning at Winchester City Council, said: “This workshop is one of a number of improvements Winchester City Council is introducing to help rural businesses with the planning process. Two existing planners acting as rural business advisors will also be available.

Cllr Robert Humby, cabinet member for planning, said: “Winchester is a large and predominantly rural district and the council recognises the important contribution businesses and landowners make to the local economy and countryside. As a rural business owner myself I know this advice will be very welcome.”

Pre-booking is essential as spaces are limited. To book email Alison Woods at awoods@winchester.gov.uk or telephone 01962 848563 by Thursday, January 12.
