Charity Sundays for Twyford salon

A HAIR salon in Twyford will be opening its doors on Sundays to raise money for charity.

Marika Baldwin, proprietor of the M Raymonde salon in High Street, also wants to raise awareness about Ataxia.

The disorder attacks the nervous system and leaves sufferers with severe muscle and mobility problems.

One of her two sons, Kurt, 29, is running the Brighton Marathon for Ataxia UK, and she is giving him the proceeds from the Sunday trading.

It comes after her son took part in the London Marathon for the same charity in 2008 and raised £3,500.

Mrs Baldwin became aware of Ataxia after one of Kurt's college friends was diagnosed with it, and confined to a wheelchair.

The charity is looking for a cure, and she is offering haircuts, sets and blow dries on Sundays starting from £15.

She learned her trade in the salons run by her uncle, Raymond Bessone, better known as 'Teasie Weasie Raymond'.

Having worked for his firm for many years, she started her own salon in Twyford in the early 1990s.

Her salon is due to open on Sundays until the Brighton Marathon on April 18.
