A 'SUSPICIOUS' man has been arrested following concerns about thefts in a Hampshire village.

As reported in the Chronicle, a 'suspicious' man had been seen on a mountain bike in the evenings in Twyford near Winchester in January.

This prompted concern from residents, but now the man has been arrested according to an update to residents by Hampshire Police.

The man who is from Twyford was arrested in Shirley High Street according to PC Mark Jeffrey from the Winchester Neighbourhood Police Team.

PC Jeffrey said: "I arrested a Twyford man in Shirley High Street, Southampton, on Wednesday the 1st of Feb, on suspicion of theft from a van parked in The Avenue, Twyford, on the 24th of January.

"I recovered some stolen goods at the scene and more since. He matched the description of the suspicious man on a bike mentioned many times on this site.

"We are now investigating many other seized items that may be linked to crimes in Twyford and further afield."

The man has been released on bail and anyone who sees anything suspicious is urged to call 101.
