A WINCHESTER scout group is celebrating after being handed a cheque worth thousands of pounds.
The 5th Winchester Scouts were given £5000 by Compton and Shawford Parish Council.
The money was grant funded from the Construction Infrastructure Levy (CIL) to assist with the cost of refurbishing the Reeves Scout Hall.
Beaver scout leader at the 5th Winchester Scouts Naomi Sadler was delighted with the news.
She said: "It is for a new kitchen and upgrading the facilities and the biggest thing for us is the new kitchen because the shelves were knackered."
"I am really pleased it has taken quite a long time of applying for the whole process.
"It is such a large amount of money, for us to raise funds if we did not have the money is really hard work, and in Compton and Shawford we do not have a great deal of people to help things and the money is very much appreciated."
