DRIVERS were kept waiting when a giant lorry crammed its way through an idyllic Winchester village.

Road users had to wait over 30 minutes on Sunday at about 3pm while a lorry navigated its way through the small main road of Hursley, along the A3090, allegedly missing the archaic houses by a matter of feet.

The Abbey Yacht and Machinery Transport lorry could be seen trying to shift a large yacht along the small a-road with the help of two escorts.

Keith Jones, 59, was returning to his home in Merdon Avenue, Chandler's Ford, from Winchester when he was stopped by police officers.

"It nearly touched both sides of the house, it was out just two to three feet short of that," he said. "We were squashed on one side of the road to get out of its way.

"There were quite a few people standing on the road watching it. I don't understand why it didn't go onto the motorway."
