1. Winchester Poetry Festival - all weekend

This is a first for Winchester. Thirty poets will visit venues across the city for debates, workshops and readings to mark the First World War centenary.

Events start on Friday at Winchester Discovery Centre and run until Sunday. Ticket prices vary. Visit winchesterpoetryfestival.org to book.

2. Taste of Wickham Festival - Sunday

Hampshire Chronicle:

On Sunday Wickham's famous medieval square will become cookery demonstrations, family fun and gourmet delights. Mayor of Winchester Cllr Eileen Berry will cut the cake to open the inaugural Taste of Wickham festival at 10am on Sunday, with festivities running until 4pm.

3. Hampshire Country Sports Day, Tichborne Park - Sunday

Get your flat caps on for a celebration of rural pursuits including hunting, shooting and fishing from the Countryside Alliance. Get set for Sunday at Tichborne Park, near Alresford.

4. Micheldever Station Harvest Fete - Sunday

Hampshire Chronicle:

 A traditional village fete to raise money for the redevelopment of the village hall. Sunday, September 14 at The Warren Hall Field, between 1pm and 4pm.

5. Winchester Memory Walk - Saturday

Hampshire Chronicle:

Two walks through the city and River Park in aid of Alzheimer's Society. Registration opens on Saturday, September 13 at 10am in North Walls Recreation Ground.

6. Colden Common Beer Festival - all weekend

Last year's event was a real corker and the boys are back in the village for three days of real ale and good laughs at Colden Common Community Centre.

There's a family afternoon on Sunday, September 14 from 2pm and free entry in the mornings on Friday and Saturday. For more visit coldencommoncc.co.uk.

7. Ride and Stride for church repairs - Saturday

Whether you're feeling guilty about not going to church enough or simply want to stay active and raise money, at this year's Ride and Stride you can walk or bike to chapels across the county to fund essential repairs. Last year riders (pictured) raised over £53,000 for Hampshire and the Islands Historic Churches Trust.

Over 100 churches are taking part this year from 10am on Saturday, September 13. Visit hihct.org.uk for a sponsorship form.

8. The Colour Factory's 20th anniversary bash - Sunday

Remember those painted bollards? The brains behind them, The Colour Factory gallery and art hub in Winchester, is celebrating their 20th birthday on Sunday. The public are invited to join them for music, workshops, face-painting and refreshments from 2pm to 5pm. No bollards are expected to be harmed.

9. Race night for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance - Friday

Hampshire Chronicle:

Kings Worthy resident Jackie Watson is hosting a race night in Itchen Abbas to raise thousands of pounds for Hampshire and Isle of Wight's air ambulance charity.

Prizes include a .4 carat diamond and a free helicopter ride. The evening starts at 7.30pm on Friday in Itchen Abbas and Avington Village Hall. For more information email jacksywatson@hotmail.com.

 

10. Cheriton Village Show - Saturday

This traditional village show near Alresford will include flowers, cake and competitions for the best vegetables. Judging starts at 10.30am, with p ublic viewing from 2pm and an auction, prize-giving and raffle from 3.15pm in Cheriton Primary School and village hall.
