IT has returned for a second year, following a 40-year gap.

Owslebury Horticultural Show was resurrected in 2013 by villagers Nigel and Jennifer White.

Lifelong villager Nigel was determined to bring back a show last held in the 1970s. What’s more he wanted to make it as authentic as possible down to the canvas marquees, wooden trestle tables and green and white bunting.

He was so keen on getting the 1950s feel just right that there were cash prizes for those best dressed in that period of tweed and cotton.

Villagers responded with hundreds of entries from fruit and veg, jams and preserves, flowers, eggs and wines, beers and ciders.

The morning was busy as competitors brought their produce to the show before all leaving on the stroke of 11am as the judges took over, before the event was opened to the public at 2pm.

Saturday’s event lacked the unique aspect from 2013 when show organisers Nigel and Jennifer White married just before the show before Jennifer then declared the event open.

Music was provided by New Forest Brass Band and the Winchester-based barber shop choir The Wessex Chordsmen.

There were traditional cream teas served in the tea tent.

In the evening musical entertainment was provided by the Travelling Owsleburys, Jan Lyon and Red Jackson.
