• PARISH councillors in Colden Common have decided to take over the maintenance of a public footpath in order to have it restored.

The footpath, located between Spring Lane and the village green, is owned by Taylor Woodrow.

The firm has offered to bring it up to scratch and pass onto the council for future maintenance.

Parish clerk, Debbie Harding, said: “We’re having a lot more mobility scooters round the village and we need to make it more friendly for people to pass. It’s such an important footpath used by so many people.”

Councillors agreed the footpath served a significant function to members of the community but cited issues with repair works carried out in the past.

Works are expected to begin shortly given the footpath’s poor state.

  • RESIDENTS from across Twyford gathered over the weekend for this year’s annual litter pick-up.

Organisers Vicky Dunlop and Trish Mardon rounded up as many people as possible, all armed with a bin bag and some rubber gloves, to clean up the village.

Ms Dunlop said: “Very many thanks to everyone who came along on Saturday morning (April 12) to help rid the village of litter again.

“It was a great community effort. If only people wouldn't drop it or chuck it in the first place! See you all again next year.”

  • MEMBERS of the Colden Common Community Centre are inviting everyone to a special celebration to mark St George’s Day.

On Wednesday (April 23) the centre will host a traditional English tea for £5 per head.

For more information call the centre on 02380 692409 or visit the website coldencommoncc.co.uk. THE flower arrangements for the Easter services in Hursley will be put together this afternoon (April 17).

Anyone who wishes to donate flowers to All Saints Church is asked to do so early this morning. Sonya Hildebrandt will be putting the arrangement together at 1pm today.

Volunteers are also required to help prepare for the ceremonies.

  • MUSICIANS are needed to play for an Otterbourne brass band.

There are vacancies for a second euphonium, bass and kit drummer/tuned percussionist. The band rehearses on Thursdays, between 7.30-9.45pm, and on Sundays between 6.30-8.30pm.

For more information email the band secretary obsecretary@btinternet.com.

  • TWYFORD Parish Council has launched a new website to provide more access to community information.

The new site, twyfordhants.org.uk, has been put together by former councillor David Evans and the new parish clerk, Elizabeth Billingham.

The former site, which was in need of an upgrade, will be available for some months but will no longer be updated.

Users are asked to report on any issues using the website feedback tab while Mr Evans and Ms Billingham work through any teething problems.
