COLDEN Common Scouts were so moved by the plight of people in the Philippines when Typhoon Haiyan struck that they reacted rapidly with the donation of a ShelterBox.

A ShelterBox is a large rubber box, crammed with disaster supplies including a heavy duty tent, water, tools, cooking equipment and even toys to make life more bearable for families.  The boxes are making a big difference.

The group geared up to raise a further £590 for a second ShelterBox.

On Saturday, (March 8) the group held a charity car wash at Colden Common Primary School. With perfect weather, the event was very busy with a steady flow of cars throughout the day which kept the beavers, cubs, scouts and leaders fully occupied.

Through the generosity of all participants the group reached the target of £590 to purchase one whole ShelterBox.

Steve Cox, group leader, said:  “We’d like to thank everyone who took part in the event, from car owners who gave generously, to children, parents and leaders who helped on the day. We must also say thank you to the Head Teacher and to Colden Common Primary School for very kindly allowing us to use their premises for the event. Well done to all involved.”
