• RESIDENTS will be able to enjoy a spot of classical music when the Twyford Singers concert takes place this weekend.

At St Cross Church at 7.30pm on Saturday, March 9, a rendition of the popular works of Vivaldi and Fauré aims to raise money for Southampton and Winchester Visitors Group (SWVG), which befriends and supports asylum seekers and refugees in the Southampton and Winchester areas.   • THE NEXT Pitstop Refuelling Writers’ Weekend workshop takes place next month.

New and established writers will be able to benefit from the workshop between April 4-6 at Shawford Parish Hall.

The workshop provides the opportunity to work in small groups to improve fiction and non-fiction projects under the guidance of professional writers in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.

Workshop titles include Choose: Getting an Idea for a Novel and Marketing It with author Adrienne Dines and Writing Marketable Children's Fiction and Non-fiction with author Sarah Mussi.

  • RESIDENTS in Colden Common have been given the opportunity to give feedback directly to the Environment Agency after the recent flood problems.

The parish council has received a request from the Environment Agency for information relating to flows along roads or valleys, sewerage systems being impeded, flooded basements, properties still pumping out water and properties flooding to ground flood level.

The council is now urging anyone with information with feedback to the Environment Agency by emailing the parish clerk, Debbie Harding, at clerk@coldencommon.hants.gov.uk.

Any information and pictures will be very useful, particularly regarding properties and land relating in Brambridge, Highbridge Road and Hensting Lane.

  • SCOUTS in Compton and Shawford are calling for adults to lend them a hand.

Volunteers are needed to join the 5th Winchester Scout Group, particularly one willing person good with accounting to become the group’s new treasurer.

The group also needs someone to help with the management of the website.

Anyone interested will be helping to support a team of leaders and 75 boys and girls aged between five and 14.
