IT is the planning battle that one South Wonston man will not give up.

Robert Memory of Alresford Drove has continued to live on the land at the half acre holding in the village - despite being told he can't legally do so.

Mr Memory was told by the Planning Inspectorate not to live on the plot, Winchester City Council also refused permission for this - but despite this he has continued to do so, much to his neighbours annoyance.

Now Winchester City Council say they will take action to remove him from the land.  As reported in the Chronicle, Mr Memory first hit the headlines when he brought livestock onto the smallholding and animals escaped from their enclosures.

His bid to build to build barns, sheds and enclosures were blocked Winchester City Council after more than 20 neighbours spoke out about noise, dung smell and dangerous traffic on Alresford Drove.

Since then he has angered neighbours once more by remaining on the land and ignoring planning laws.

He has even renamed the plot the "Gunn Barrell Estate", and there is even a Facebook page which describes it as "Gunn-Barrell estates, is a small family run farm with a variety of different animals. We sell chicks, ducklings, rabbits, fertile eggs and micro pigs."

However, nearby residents are not pleased by this.

One resident said: "A number of residents have a concern about the threatening nature of this name, is bears no relevance nor is in keeping with other names along the Drove."

Another resident said that the on-going battle with Mr Memory is making it difficult to enjoy living at their home.

David Coakley who lives in the area said the issue has been a nightmare for neighbours, and said animals keep escaping enclosures.

Mr Coakley said: "It is constant noise, it is the constant smell and the machinery is going when he feels like it, it makes it very difficult for us to enjoy living where we are. If you want to have a BBQ you can't go outside because of the smell."

"He does not understand that there are rules and regulations he just thinks everyone is having a go at him.

"People are just trying to enjoy their own properties but they can't because of the noise and the smell."

A spokeswoman for Winchester City Council said: "I can confirm that the City Council will be pursuing further action against Mr Memory."
