The chains of office were not the only badges of honour glinting in the sunlight when Winchester Mayor, Cllr Jane Rutter, visited a Kings Worthy school for a special awards ceremony.
As part of her initiative to recognise excellence in local schools, Cllr Rutter visited Prince's Mead School and was delighted to award the Mayor’s School Certificate to Year five boys Stephen Dorey and Scott Helyar, who also received a special pin badge and £20 book token.
As part of the school’s celebration, the Mayor also met all the Year 6 pupils whose sterling efforts have been rewarded with a record number of scholarships and awards to senior schools in September.
Headmistress Penelope Kirk said: “After all their hard work, it was such a treat for the children to have the Mayor of Winchester visit. This city has a long tradition of excellence in education, and we’re so pleased the Mayor could help us celebrate their part in its brilliant future.”
