Pupils from South Wonston Primary School are to visit naturalist Gilbert White’s House and The Oates Collection in the village of Selborne, near Alton, next week as part of their studies.
Members of the Woodpeckers, Owls and Kestrels classes will make the trip as part of their new ‘River Study’ study topic, and enjoy a day of practical geography.
Because of student numbers, half the children will make the visit on Tuesday, and the remainder on Thursday.
The pupils will visit the river in Selborne to calculate the velocity of water, plot a cross-section of the stream and create a map to demonstrate their discoveries.
Pioneering naturalist Gilbert White was born in Selborne in 1720, and later became its curate – four times.
